Japan is one of the county that has a high technology. In the aspect of transportation, Japan most famous transportation as well as tourist attraction is bullet train or known as, Shinkansen. Shinkansen train connects Tokyo city and Osaka. The distance between these two cities is cut short from 7 hours to 4 hours. The success of Shinkansen is due to several technologies used;


  • Design of The Train
The body of the train resembles the nose of an airplanes. The design is built that way because of the aerodynamics function, for wind resistance. Due to this efficient shape, the Shinkansen is able to reach a speed of 200 kilometers per hour.

  • Minimum Vibration
Normally when train operates on a high speed there will be strong vibration on the rails. The vibration can damage the passenger compartments. The bullet train used an air compressor to absorb the wheel vibration. 

  • Automatic Train Control System
Shinkansen trains doesn’t use manual adjusted speed by drivers due to it high speed, it will be impossible for drivers to adjust the speeds accordingly. Instead it uses a speed control system, ATC to control the speed of the train. ATC system will work by transmitting the speed information along the track. This information will be received by a signal that is attached to the driver’s seat. This system will automatically adjust the train speed according to the designated speed limit. In addition to that, Shinkansen is control by Centralized Traffic Control system that ensure the safe and practical distance and time between each trains.

All of these technologies enable the trains to operate smoothly and safely.
